Productions with a Seal of Approval!

As you have read from my other pages, I have many services available, and will attempt to list several of them here. If you have any doubt, or if you do not see what you are looking for, be sure to email me and ask about it. Just because I do not list it here, does not mean that I do not have that service available to you. You can find out more on my pricing page.

I perform all aspects of video production, from planning and preproduction to post production and editing. For instance, many people do not realize how much work goes into producing even a short project. Once you have determined the topic, you must then determine the scope of the project. How will you approach it? Will you view it from a consumer/user perspective, or will you make it a narrative? Do you want to do documentary style? Will people be involved, and should they be actors or experts? Depending on the topic of your project, you will have to make many choices.

Even for a wedding, there is a lot to consider. First, you need to spend time with the bride and groom on their own. You need to meet them as they are getting ready, get into their minds and see how it will affect them. Then you must visit with guests, and establish atmosphere. How do you do this? If the wedding is in a beautiful location, you will want to spend a bit of time around the premises, looking at the grand overview. You will want to bring out that quality in the video. If you are in a plain location, then we must meet the people involved. We also need to meet the parents and wedding party. This may all seem like more information than you need, but trust me - you will want to cherish every aspect of this when you get older, as well as sharing this with your future children.

Now that you have seen just a bit of the thought process that goes into preparation, then you have the actual layout and scripting. Yes, even a wedding needs to have a script, and anyone who shoots without one, is not doing you justice. It does not have to be verbatim, but there should be a shot list and plan laid out. Once this is done, then you have to plan the best locations for shots to make it happen. Will you use one, two, or three cameras? What angle will work best to get the bride and groom exchanging vows? How do you set up for sound? Now the implementation of your plans happens. Once you have everything shot, and you feel confident that your video taping is complete, be sure to get ambient sounds and insert shots. These are sounds that can be put in places where something happened that was not planned. For instance, during the party, a large plane flys by slowly. Do you want that in your soundtrack? You would be better off with some imported sound from the event for atmosphere. Also, closeups of the bouquet to be insert just prior to throwing it make it more exciting. How about cloesups of emotional guests? All these things need to be added. Then you go into post-production.

This is where the magic happens. You can take awful footage, and make a good quality video out of it, if you know how to edit. I primarily use Final Cut Pro editing software to create professional results. It is the same program used by many movie editors from Hollywood. The editor has the power to make it good or bad, so you want someone who knows what they are doing. Then it comes to creation of the DVD, and your approval. You should be allowed to view it before final cut, to be sure it is what you wanted. Perhaps you want me to use some more footage of the relatives, and take out the party scenes. That is fine. You get one review to give me your preferences, and I make it happen. Then you get the final project, and enjoy it for years to come.

These are some of the services I provide for any project, whether commercial or private. There are many more services that I will list below, but be sure to contact me for more. I have completed voiceovers, narration, and hosted television shows. I can also host your event or production, too. I can operate cameras in your studio and outdoors, work as director, floor director, switcher/technical director, producer, and even sound.

Here are just a few of the services I offer:
Scripting/PlanningThis is where your production begins. We can sit down and plan what you are looking for, and I can consult with you on setup for maximum exposure. I can also assist with promotion and ideas to make it a better event. I have organized events, and can assist you, or your planner, to make things great.
Layout & SetupLet me make your event work even better by taking into account any audience, placement of cameras, best location for sound, how to wire and light the event, and what colors or graphics would make it look even better. Do not wear stripes, bright colors, or similar colors. Placement and lighting are critical, also. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum, and if you can see without glasses, it is best not to wear them.
Equipment ChoicesThe equipment, sound, and lighting you use can have an effect on creative or proper video taping. I need to know what sound equipment you will use so I can take my audio off your system, and can suggest filters and colors with lighting to make it look even better. What audio equipment works best for the type of sound you want to create? Should you ues lavalier microphones, mic stands, or handhelds? Do you want an amplified mic, or dynamic mic?
Event CoordinationThis is the job of a good producer. Coordinating guests, timing, music, and any other element that must occur during the event. As a producer, I can tell you that even the best plans sometimes have problems, and you need to have a backup for every contingency. A successful event needs a good producer.
Taping/Production WorkThis is the actual taping of the event, as well as coordinating helpers and directing the work. A director has to keep tabs on all aspects of the video production at all times, even when they trust the people working with them. It is the director's job to make sure everything goes well during production.
Post ProductionThis is the Editor's job. Now the project comes together. What shots go well together? How should I cover a bad shot or an edit? Are transitions needed, and if so, what kind? Many videographers are not editors. They will put heavy transitions in place where they are not necessary, just because they do not know how to put it together properly. The editor must be hidden. That means you do not call attention to your work with heavy transitions, special effects, or bad cutting.
ConsultantI am available on a consultant basis for brainstorming, formatting your plans, or setting up whatever you need to make it a successful event. I can also train your team to work efficiently, develop checklists, and do whatever is necessary to make things work the best they can.
VHS ConversionBecause I have the equipment to work on video from all sources, I can convert your VHS tapes to DVD or digital file. Do you have a bunch of tapes of your family from your VHS camcorder? I can also convert from VHS C. Hi8 is available for some circumstances.
Heritage VideosTake a look at my Heritage Video Project to find out about preserving your family stories, and tales of generations past. This is a very worthwhile project to hand down to children, grandchildren, and future generations.

If you do not see your needs listed here, click on the link to view pricing, or contact us to see if I offer it!

I am available for consulting, at special rates. I can also provide green-screen work and expertise, when you cannot actually go out on location to complete a shot. This is great for inclement weather, or travel that may be too expensive, just for the short bit of time it may be used.

As an award winning script writer, you can also call upon me to write or edit a script for you, as well. Every aspect of your production will be covered. Do not forget to ask about more services, including setting up your equipment, training you, or working with your existing time. I am available as freelance for many jobs.
